futile attempts at photography

Finally got myself a digital camera, a Canon S410. I didn't expect how much fun this was going to be and regret not getting something with more manual controls. If the fun keeps up, I will be moving on to something better, but in the mean time lets see if it is the camera or me that gives out first. I've been playing exclusively with the exposure settings on this camera, as I noticed that the flash on this camera is pretty much useless and not to mention that there isn't a whole lot else I can manually control on this camera. Not being familiar with basic photographic concepts has been painful and the lack of a tripod is still killing me. Most of the pictures I end up shooting are in low light situations and when I try to over-expose, the lack of a tripod shows a bit too glaringly in the picture. But I keep telling myself naively to not worry about the technical problems for now as that knowledge is going to come with experience anyway. Can't say I am too worried about anything right now, as I've been having a lot of fun! Good pictures or not, I've definitely been having good times!!!

One of my co-workers goes on vacation to Aruba and brings back a bunch of shot glasses with different faces on them. He gave me this one especially, he said, because it suits my personality. Needless to say, the faces on the other shot glasses were far less vulgar
